Principal advisor, innovative partnerships - MBIE

Leah Murphy is a principal advisor in the innovative partnerships team at MBIE. The innovative partnerships Programme works with international firms and New Zealand innovators to establish enabling environments necessary for adoption of New Zealand as an R&D location.

Before her time at MBIE, Leah had a varied government career in regulatory change and funding in the climate change and transport sectors. She was a member of the Emissions Trading Group that designed the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme, manager of the Environmental Sustainability team at the Ministry of Transport, manager of the Public Transport Investment team at Waka Kotahi, Cycleway Program manager at KiwiRail and funding lead for the Streets for People program at Waka Kotahi.

She started out her working life as an accountant for small business, and is enjoying working to support businesses with innovation that can have a positive impact on the environment and for New Zealanders.
