Michael Eaglen is founder of Auckland-based maritime cleantech design and technology specialist EV Maritime. Michael has an early background in naval architecture and structural engineering and was commercial manager and then CEO of Auckland shipyard McMullen & Wing for nine years.
A passion for sustainability and a drive to find the next niche in which the New Zealand marine industry could claim a place in the global market led him to form EV Maritime in 2018, with an aim not just to electrify ferries but to deliver what he calls a better ferry future.
EV Maritime has a contract with Auckland Transport to deliver the first two full-size, full-electric ferries into the Auckland public transport network, supported by significant central government funding. EV Maritime is establishing relationships with public transport agencies, financiers, operators, and shipyards in Australia, Asia, USA and Canada for the deployment of similar vessels in other world cities.
It has also recently been selected by the World Bank to provide professional consulting services towards the electrification of a major commuter ferry fleet in South-East Asia.
